About the House
The man who answers your letter has walked the ground.
Every enquiry that reaches the House is answered personally by John Campbell, our Chief Concierge. He is fifty-six, born within sound of a Scottish fairway, and has spent a lifetime collecting golf courses the way other men collect first editions.
There are some five hundred and fifty courses in Scotland — more per capita than anywhere on earth. John has played most of them: the eight-time Open venues, certainly, but also the nine-hole pasture greens where sheep hold up play and nobody minds. He keeps the scorecards. His remaining ambition, he will tell you over a dram, is not a trophy but a completion — to stand on every tee his country has to offer, and to hand the bag on only afterwards.
So when he recommends a course for your journey, it is not from a brochure. It is from memory: the line of the second fairway into the wind, the clubhouse bar lunch worth lingering over, the starter who will find you a twilight loop while the town sleeps. It is the closest thing to being handed the keys to Scottish golf itself.
